Take One Step

by Gelly McAuliffe-Bunker

Though we are being bombarded on all sides, let us take one step at a time. Yes, times are difficult, but we are not alone (Heb 13:5; Matt 28:19-20). We have a Risen Saviour. God is our hope. Holy Spirit indwells us (Rom 5:1-5). Deep breath, Sister. Putting one foot in front of the other, let us step forward with refreshed vigour.

This may be a step out of your comfort zone. Isolation has taken on new meaning since Covid became a pandemic. To protect against infection, we isolate. However, apart from Covid-risk, let us stay connected (Heb 10:25). We are part of a greater Body of Christ. God may use our one step today to reach another, or to draw us closer (Jas 4:8). Be courageous.

We might need to step down from the platform we have allowed others to build around us, or the one we pridefully built ourselves. Step closer to serve another. Hear their story (Jas 1:19). We may have a word to share with them, but let us listen first. Then they may feel empowered to find their own answers. Be humble.

The step we take may be up from the mire and the dust (Ps 40:2). Look to the Saviour, and leave all anxieties at His feet (1 Pet 5:7). Looking too closely at ourselves, our own feet and struggles, can trip us up. Instead, look to the Lord, who strengthens us, and enables us to strengthen others (2 Cor 1:3-4). Be faithful, as God is faithful.

God’s Word is a lamp to our feet (Ps 119:105). He whispers on the way we should go. We can look to God in trust. But let us be careful not to run ahead of Him. We may hear God’s whisper but then jump to conclusions. The dream He places on our heart may be a call to light the way for another (1 Chron 28:9-10; John 3:30). Recognise that we each have a part in God’s glory. Be ready.

Gelly Nic seeks to share God’s Word with others, that each may know and experience the incredible love and faithfulness of our God, who draws near to us as we draw near to Him (Jas 4:8). Her heart prayer is that those on the margins would find grace and true fellowship in God, and with His people.
