As a little girl I would often ask myself what I would be one day, or what I would do one day or what I would look like one day. I would often project my thoughts to the future “one day”. Some would call it daydreaming. As a teenager, I would think about my future – where I would work one day, so my decision making was based around these two words.
During those same years, my younger brother died after he was hit by a car whilst riding his bike. The thought of my dying “one day” would haunt me for many years. Sometimes I would think about getting something done one day, which would often not eventuate because of a habit of procrastination.
One day when I was 21, after two years at Bible College, I took some steps to become a missionary, however, that door was closed, and I was left confused and bewildered that something I had wanted to do one day would not be fulfilled.
Those words “one day” have now turned into almost 60 years and as I look back, I see how much time I wasted musing and mulling over the what ifs of that one day that would likely never come. What a shame!! Satan, however, would want me to stay stuck in this wasteland and remind me of how much I haven’t achieved, of never reaching my career or beauty goals.
Thanks be to God that I have His Word to remind me of many good things that will happen one day.
These are some of them: -
One day – the Lord Himself will come down from Heaven…..and the dead in Christ will rise first. 1 Thessalonians 4v16
One day – He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Revelation 21v4
One day – Those who remain will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we be forever with the Lord. 1 Thessalonian 4v17
One day – When Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3v2
One day – Whoever remains steadfast under trial, he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. James 1v12
One day – We will be changed, in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye. The mortal will be clothed in immortality. 1 Corinthians 15v51-53
One day – We will receive a crown of righteousness especially if we have longed for Jesus’ appearing. 2 Timothy 4v8
What lovely verses to meditate on as we anticipate that one day which is still to come. There is a hymn that I love called Glorious Day. I hope it inspires and encourages you.
