Look at the Flowers

By Semona Michael

I couldn’t not click this picture of this lone yellow flower beaming at me as I came home from a long day at work. There it stood, tall and beautiful amidst the mowed grass in the front of my house. An unwanted weed that none of us would pay anything for it. Yet it bloomed for its creator! Faithfully fulfilling its purpose and plan, nectar for the bees maybe? Or something else? I would never know or maybe just to brighten the day of the one who saw it and, in this case, my day!

While I watched it with a smile on my face, I was reminded of the verse from Matthew 6:25-30

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Our loving God is sovereign! He alone is mindful of everything and knows what we need even before we ask of Him. God knew I had had an overwhelming day and how drained I was feeling, His flower welcomed me while His Spirit reminded me of the verse in His word which encouraged and comforted me, how amazing is that!

We have our loving living God who is with us always, what about those who do not know Him?

Like the flower fulfilling its purpose, let us fulfil ours, which is to seek God’s kingdom first, telling the world about His love that none may perish, by loving our neighbours as we love ourselves and knowing in faith that our God will take care of us and all that we need.

Have a wonderful week!
